About Us

We are a registered charity, run democratically by our members through an elected Management Committee. The Centre has both paid and volunteer workers. We rely on funding from a variety of sources, including Big Lottery, Community Legal Services & various charities.

Salford Unemployed & Community Resource Centre is one of a network of Unemployed Centres in the North West and across the country. Established in 1980 the Centre continues with its originals aims. That is, uniting the employed & unemployed, to provide information and services to unemployed people and workers and to combat all forms of discrimination. The Centre is committed to the principle and practice of equality of opportunity for all people, regardless of sex, race, religion, marital status, age, sexuality or disability.

We provide a range of services and engage in a range of activities in pursuit of these aims. We campaign for a return to full employment and against measures which attack the unemployed. We offer support facilities to Trade Unions and Community Groups. We provide educational facilities, advice & representation for people facing problems in a wide range of fields – Employment Law, Welfare Benefits and Debt Management. The Centre also runs a Prison Project, with a dedicated worker supporting offenders who do not normally receive supervision from the Probation Service.

The Big Lottery funded scheme, called Closing The Gap, assists people with debt problems, basic literacy and numeracy skills, confidence building and CV courses.

As well as our paid officers, the Centre relies heavily on volunteers in the running of the Centre. We have a Volunteers Charter, to ensure everyone is treated fairly. Even half an hour each week can help the Centre. Volunteering can be extremely rewarding, helping to improve your confidence, building on your skills & experience that may help in future employment, whilst putting something back into your local community.
